Backlog: Mid August 2024
Watching
- Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: Both of these movies just grab you by the shirt and don’t let go. They are so visceral and elemental that they stayed with me much longer than I would’ve expected. I’ve thought about them again and again.
- Sunny: Near future time frame? Check. Beautiful production design? Check. Fish out of water in another culture? Check. This show is obviously ticking a lot of boxes for me.

- This 22-Year-Old Builds Chips in His Parents’ Garage by Tom Simonite at Wired: Related to DYI computing that I linked to last week. The article describes the efforts of Sam Zeloof, who is traveling along 70s era Moore’s Law at a pretty good clip. Since this article, it seems like he’s co-founded a scrappy semiconductor fab called Atomic Semi. Color me intrigued.
- The Daily Heller: Cut the Action and Hold the Presses by Steven Heller: An interview with Matt Stevens, a designer who illustrates movies as if they were old books. Some pretty awesome work here.
